What are five ways you can reduce your cholesterol level?
- Eat plenty of foods with natural antioxidants, such as fruits and vegetables.
- Eat foods low in saturated fats, like fat free or 1% dairy products, lean meats, fish, skinless poultry, and fruits and vegetables.
- Use soft margarines (liquid or tub varieties) low in saturated fat with little or no trans fat.
- Include oatmeal, whole grains, and fruit (skin included) in your diet. Fiber-rich foods may help lower your total cholesterol level.
- Make physical activity part of your daily routine. Regular exercise can actually increase the "good" HDL and reduce the "bad" LDL.
